School Library Book Project
We’re improving literacy and enhancing student belonging through a district-wide library initiative designed to reflect each school’s unique, diverse community. As part of this effort, we provided over 900 books to all 15 SSFUSD schools. Each school library was excited to receive the new books, which were quickly put into circulation for students to enjoy.
Field Trips for Baden High School
We’re increasing access to learning by funding field trips and a year-end celebration for Baden High students.
To kick off the year, Baden students took part in a full-day Ropes Course at San Bruno Mountain Park.
During the course, they focused on teamwork, leadership, and accomplishing goals. Later, the second trip took them to Coyote Point Park, where they celebrated their accomplishments throughout the year.
Soccer Team for English Learner Soccer League
We’re removing barriers and increasing access to school sports through a co-ed soccer team for English Language learners. As a result, the district soccer club team at South San Francisco High School helped newcomer students strengthen community ties. Additionally, the program improved attendance and gave students a sense of accomplishment at school. Thanks to their dedication, the South San Francisco Futbol Club was highly successful, winning the league championship in their first season!
Newcomer Resource Fund
We’re providing newcomers with basic necessities such as shoes, coats, and household items directly to families in need. To support these efforts, we assisted over 70 students this year, purchasing clothing, bedding, and even pillows. School community liaisons work directly with the students, allowing them to use these funds to purchase items tailored to each individual student’s needs.
Family Education Event
Improving accessibility to information on navigating school systems, we held our first event, a one-day bilingual conference for families of students in middle school. Speakers addressed topics like substance abuse, communication, relationships, social media, and more. All workshops and presentations were given in both spanish and english and the day included a community resource fair and free lunch.
Youth Empowerment, Early Education, and Employment Program (YEEE)
Promoting youth achievement by helping fund the YEEE program. The San Mateo County Office of Education held a program in the summer of 2024 that trained recent graduates and high school students in literacy instruction during summer school programs at SSFUSD.
Technology for Parkway
Expanding technology access for Parkway Middle School by receiving the Barona Education Grant, which they used to invest in a Glowforge 3D Laser Printer. This investment unlocks students’ creativity, providing them with hands-on opportunities to explore innovative projects and gain valuable skills for future careers in design, engineering, and technology.
Our planned initiatives for 2024-2025 will continue to address critical student needs, increase a sense of belonging and community for underrepresented students, address literacy needs, and expand accessibility to family education and community building. These initiatives are designed to ensure every student in the South San Francisco Unified School District has the support and resources they need to succeed. With your help, we can fund these programs and provide more resources to students. Contribute to the success of our students by making an individual donation or becoming a sponsor. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our students.
