Fostering Inclusion with the School Library Project

We have been working with all fifteen SSFUSD schools to enrich school libraries with books that celebrate diversity, promote inclusion, and foster students’ sense of belonging. Students are more engaged when they see themselves reflected in school materials, which leads to sharper critical thinking skills, higher standardized test scores, better attendance, and higher graduation rates. There are also socioemotional benefits, including improved self-esteem, empathy, and appreciation for cultural differences.
