Basic Necessities for Newcomers

Attending SSFUSD is the end of a long, difficult journey for some new students. To ease the transition, the district employs family liaisons to help newcomers get situated; however, sometimes students arrive without basic essentials, such as shoes, a coat, underwear, or bedding, and school funding does not cover these items. We believe that students need their basic survival needs met in order to be able to learn and thrive at school, so we created a fund to empower the district’s family liaison officers to purchase basic essentials for the students they serve. To support the well being of students, the South San Francisco Education Foundation created the Newcomers Resources Fund to help provides basic necessities, such as shoes and coats.
